MADALENA ~ ΜΑΝΤΑΛΕΝΑ

60 years ago, a black and white film with a little known actress crashed the 1960 Thessaloniki International Film Festival when it took home the Best Picture, Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor Awards!

The film was MADALENA. The little known actress was Aliki Vougiouklaki. The Best Supporting Actor was Pantelis Zervos.
60 years later, Finos Film Official has restored a print of MADALENA ~ ΜΑΝΤΑΛΕΝΑ and have generously allowed us to screen it during our On Line Greek Film Festival, July 10-20, 2020.
Directed by Dinos Dimopoulos. Written by Giorgos Roussos.
Cast: Aliki Vougiouklaki (Madalena), Dimitris Papamichael (Labis), Pantelis Zervos (Priest), Despo Diamantidou (Giokari), Yorgos Damasiotis (Police Captain), Thanasis Vengos (Policeman), Lavrentis Dianellos (Captain Kosmas)
When her father dies, a young woman takes over his fishing boat to support her six younger siblings, defying tradition and sparking a rivalry with a competing young captain with whom she falls in love. Digitally restored for its 60th anniversary, this beloved classic comedy glitters again with its striking black and white cinematography by Walter Lassally and its musical score by Manos Hadjidakis.
*** This film is in Greek with English subtitles. Tickets available soon! ***
Major thanks to our generous supporters starting with our main sponsor, Stavros Niarchos Foundation, as well as Onassis Foundation USA, Kallinikeion Foundation, Queens Council On The Arts, Mary Jaharis and Philip Christopher of American Network Solutions!!
