The opera “Prometheus Bound” by P. Karousos at Greek-English Education

 

The opera “Prometheus Bound” at Greek-English Education. The educational presentation of the opera “Prometheus Bound” by Panagiotis Karousos was held with great success on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at the Greek-English Education Event Hall in Maroussi, Athens, under the auspices of the Club for UNESCO of Piraeus & Islands. Greetings were delivered by Mr. Christodoulos G. Kakadiaris, director, Mr. Ioannis Maronitis, President of the  Club for UNESCO of Piraeus & Islands and of the international organization International Action Art, and Mr. Kosmas Stamatis, high school director of Greek-English Education.

The members of the “Rhapsodes” Musical Ensemble participated, Prometheus: Panagiotis Diplaros (baritone), Io: Maria Kokka (soprano), Oceanida: Rhea Voudouri (soprano), Ocean/Hermes: Giannos Kotzias (Tenor), Maria Grigoriou (chorist), Christiana Manou (piano), Panagiotis Karousos (music composer), the Greek-English Education Theater Group under the direction of art professor Nikolaos Sarlis, visual artist, and the Greek-English Education Choir under the direction of professor Vasilis Tzavaras, musician.

Honorary plaques were awarded by Ioannis Maronitis, President of the  Club for UNESCO of Piraeus & Islands and President of International Action Art, to the school's directors, teachers, and the leading soprano Maria Kokka.

The great lyric soprano and soloist of the Greek National Opera Maria Kokka starred in the role of Io, giving an excellent performance. The opera ended with an impressive finale with the choral part of Prometheus performed by the lyric singers and the choir of the Greek-English Education High School.

The students and pupils applauded the lyric singers and their classmates who beautifully performed the events of Prometheus.

The choruses of the opera Prometheus Bound by Aeschylus "We were friends when we came to this rock" and "Zeus shall not claim his power from me" were performed by the Choir of the High School of Greek-English Education: Alina Karagiannaki, Angeli, Zoe Damba. Siouti Myrto, Pavlos Sitotis, Zoe Nanouri.

Events Prometheus: Return of the Olympic fire to humans, capture of Prometheus by order of Zeus by Kratos and Vios and his chaining by Hephaestus in the Caucasus. Hermes quarrels with Prometheus and the Oceanid Amphitrite. Prometheus' condemnation and his downfall by the goddess Athena.

Greek-English Education Theatre Group: Vasileios Doulas (Prometheus), Demosthenes Stavrianos, Christaleni Voudouri, Daphne Karavia, Boza Despina, Agapi Pegrati, Dimitris Dermentzoglou, Christou Titos, Stylianos Christou, Marios, Spyros Thanasis Petrogiannis, Alexandros Valkanas, Elias Siaperas, Dimitra Kavmenaki, Andreas Kyriazis, Maritina Takou, Alexia Katzaelia, Myrto Mesolongiti, Mantzavakou, Alina Karagiannaki, Stefanos Kogkas. Technical music and sound: Ioannis Koulis, Georgia Papastavrou. The opera's scenery was designed by the artist and art professor Mr. Nikolaos Sarlis.

An excellent educational experience for students, an introduction to the magical world of opera and musical theater. Congratulations to the teachers of the Greek-English Education Department for the initiative to close the school year with the presentation of a high-level performance of the lyrical tragedy "Prometheus Bound" by Panagiotis Karousos with notable artists and soloists of the Greek National Opera.
