Actress Rita Moreno presents George Chakiris (left) with the Honorary Orpheus Award |
LAGFF's 12th year, was one of its most colorful editions, with a variety of enriching events. Celebrating legendary actor George Chakiris on Closing Night was certainly one of the top moments; our inaugural collaboration with UCLA Stavros Niarchos Foundation Center for the Study of Hellenic Culture established what we hope to be a long-term friendship and partnership; Government official Lefteris Kretsos supported LAGFF with his presence and presented the new Greek film law; Tassos Boulmetis' docudrama 1968 had its world premiere at LAGFF; Closing Night film SMUGGLING HENDRIX, a Cypriot production, came to LAGFF fresh from Tribeca Film Festival after winning an award there; for the second time in a row, Best Feature Orpheus Award winner, POLYXENI, is Greece's official Oscar entry; for the fifth year in a row, our numbers increased -- close to 3,000 in attendance, over 8,500 FB followers, 235,000 views in Youtube and live feeds. Stay tuned for 2019's surprises.
