A triumph for the Greek opera "Prometheus Bound" by Aeschylus took place in Zakynthos on 17 October 2015 set to music by Panagiotis Karousos and directed by Vassilis Asimakopoulos.
Crowds applauses the inexhaustible talented performers, that gave their best on stage, interpreting the word of Aeschylus, which is one of the masterpieces of ancient Greek literature.
Anastasia Papadatou - Apostolopoulos, president of the Club for UNESCO Zakynthos and Ambassador of Culture for UNESCO of Piraeus and Islands presented the project as the most popular modern opera of Greece, and rewarded the artists with the Gold Medal of UNESCO and the "PRIZE DIONYSIOS SOLOMOS of "UNESCO's Zakynthos.
Greek Canadian composer Panayiotis Karousos paralleling the myth of Prometheus to the current situation of the country, said: "the rebel Prometheus did not bend forward in any memorandum, the No of Prometheus in front of Tyrants now seems more pertinent than ever."
The artists led by Vasilis Asimakopoulos so much charmed the audience that after the many applauses and a stinting ovation, the President of UNESCO for Zakynthos promised to bring back the opera in Zakynthos.
The lyric singers with the beautiful voices that interpreted the traditional style Greek drama were: Prometheus: Vasilis Asimakopoulos, bass, Io - Athena: Irene Konsta, soprano, Ocean / Hermes: Anastasios Stellas, tenor, Oceanid / Goddess Hera: Maria Lyberakou, soprano. The memorable directorial work of Vasilis Asimakopoulos praised equally as the music of Panagiotis Karousos.
The protagonists accompanied marvelously by renown pianist Maria Yavroumi, highlighting the melodies of the project on the piano. The opera honored with his presence Polish conductor Dr. Dariusz Mikulski.
It was the first time staged opera at the Municipal Theatre in Zakynthos in Sarakinado Cultural Center of Zakynthos, and the music-lovers rejoiced, especially liked the presentation of the Greek Melodrama on their island.
The lighting editor was Timotheos Zontou, President of Theatrical Stage of Zakynthos. Greetings and congratulations to all organizers and artists gave the Deputy Mayor for Culture Zakynthos Mr. John Koklas.
At the end of the show come on the stage the winners of the International Contest of Fine Arts and Visual Arts of Zakynthos who warmly congratulated the artists and received their awards.
The island once again proved that Zakynthos is a pioneer in culture and the fine arts.
