The opera "Iliad" by Panagiotis Karousos at the Athens Marriott Hotel for the return of the Parthenon Sculptures by the Club for UNESCO of Piraeus and Islands
Sunday, April 9, 2023, Marriott Athens. The opera "Iliad" by Panagiotis Karousos was successfully presented at the Athens Marriott Hotel for the return of the Parthenon Sculptures by the Club for UNESCO of Piraeus and Islands. The amazing lyrical singers Irini Konsta (Orea Eleni), Olga Skekliou (Ekavi), Rea Voudouri (Andromachi) starred, and together with the lyrical singers and the events, theatrical and sports, they thrilled the audience in the packed hall that applauded non-stop. Also performed by Rhea Voudouris and the singers were the songs dedicated to the Parthenon by Kostis Palamas and Caryatides by Ioannis Polemis, and Olga Skekliou performed the song "Maria Callas tis Kardias mas" all set to music by the composer Panagiotis Karousos. The welcome and awards of the participants were made by the President of the Club for UNESCO Piraeus and Islands, Member of the Executive Board of the World Federation of Clubs, UNESCO Clubs, General President IAA, Ioannis Maronitis. They graced the event with their presence and prefaced: Deputy Minister of Education and Religious Affairs responsible for higher education, Professor of International Law and Foreign Policy at Panteion University, Mr. Angelos Syrigos. History of the opera "Iliad" by Homer by Panagiotis Karousos The opera "Iliad" is an original creation of musical theater, based on the thematic axis of Mythology with the epic "Iliad of Homer" of ancient Greek literature. A connection of cultural heritage with modern creation. Homer's Iliad as a thematic axis permeates all types of Art and lends itself to new interpretations. It appeals to a wide range of viewers (from children to adults) and being so multi-faceted and multi-layered, we can highlight aspects that are not widely known. The opera "Iliad" by Homer was premiered with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Corinth, under the direction of Glykeria Moraitakis at the Municipal Theater of Piraeus, in Alexandrio Loutraki Conference Center and the Great Propylaia and the Roman Courtyard of the Archaeological Site of Elefsina.
