The Department of School Activities of the Directorate of Secondary Education of Corinthia and the Municipality of Corinthia co-organize under the auspices of the Club for UNESCO Piraeus and Islands a concert / Oratorio: "The United Nations - Hope of Mankind" by Panagiotis Karousos under the direction of Conductor Faidra Giannelou, Sunday 14/04/19 at the Municipal Theater in Corinth "Thomas Thomaidis" at 7:00 pm. Oratorio: "The United Nations - Hope of Mankind" by Panagiotis Karousos
"The United Nations - Hope of Mankind" by Panagiotis Karousos is an oratorio dedicated to the United Nations. It was introduced successfully in Montreal, Canada on February 23, 2003 with the collaboration of the UN Department of the United Nations (ICAO) under the auspices of UNESCO Canada, and the City of Montreal.
The presentation was made in the magnificent Notre-Dame Basilica, with Canadian soprano Lambroula Maria Pappas, Brazilian bass Daniel Bonato, L'Ensemble Choral St-Eustache directed by Pierre Turcotte, and OSJL- L Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Maestro André Gauthier.
Composer Panagiotis Karousos collaborated with ICAO President Assad Kotaite for the presentation of the Oratorio in Montreal under the auspices of the organization, UNESCO Canada and the City of Montreal. All the Embassies and Representatives of the member countries of the United Nations, in particular the ICAO Department representatives were invited to the concert.
Oratorio: "The United Nations - Hope of Mankind" is an oratorio for symphony orchestra, mixed chorus, and two soloist soprano and bass. It consists of 6 poems of great poets representing the 6 official languages ​​of the United Nations.
ICAO President Assad Kotaite said after the concert: "The work of Panagiotis Karousos is a masterpiece of art that brings us the message of unity and peace, a magnificent hymn to the United Nations."
In Greece, the work was presented at the Municipal theater of the City of Athens' "Anna-Maria Kalouta", by the Club for UNESCO Piraeus and the Islands, with the soloist Irini Konsta, soprano and Vasilis Asimakopoulos, bass, the “Graduates' Choir of Music School Pallini” and Athenian Music Teachers "Choremus" and the Hellenic Symphony Orchestra under the direction of conductor Phaedra Giannelou.

Phaidra Gianelou, conductor

Faidra Giannelou was born in Athens. In 2008, she received her Bachelor-degree in the major of “Orchestral Conducting” from the Music Department of Ionian University under Prof. Miltos Logiadis, being the first Bachelor-degree holder in “Orchestral Conducting”, taken from a Greek university. In September 2010, she received her Master-degree from the same University and in January 2012, she was also admitted as a Ph.D. candidate.
She has been distinguished during her studies with scholarships and awards from the State Scholarship Foundation, the Ionian University and the Greek Ministry of Education.
As an orchestra conductor, she has collaborated with symphony orchestras in Germany, Russia, U.S.A., U.K., Sweden, Estonia, Italy, Spain, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Poland, Croatia, Bulgaria,Turkey and Cyprus.
She has also conducted the Athens State Orchestra, Thessaloniki State Orchestra, Greek Radio Symphony Orchestra, Contemporary Music Orchestra of Greek Radio, Orchestra of Colours, Athens Municipality Symphony Orchestra and Kyklos Ensemble.

As a choir conductor, Faidra has been conducting the Graduates’ Choir of the Music High School of Pallini since 2013. She is the conductor and founder member of the Music Educators’ Choir of Attiki “Choremus”.
