Dear members of the Press and friends of Porphyra,
You are cordially invited this Friday morning at 11:00AM to the Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce for a Press Conference regarding our Rock Opera. After debuting at Carnegie Hall and Off Broadway at the Players Theatre we are coming for the first time to Queens at historic Flushing Town Hall! As loyal friends and fans through the years we are also going to honor with you a certificate from UNESCO. Let me know if you can attend or send a representative.
The Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce presents the amazing and highly -original rock opera -
“Porphyra, A Grecian Rock Opera. Anna and Vladimir: The Love That ROCKED the World,” in three shows on Friday, June 2 and Saturday, June 3, at historic Flushing Town Hall. Experience ancient history through modern music, dance, and romance!
The rock opera, “Anna and Vladimir: The Love That ROCKED The World,” is based on the history of Russia and Greece, two ancient cultures represented by the relationship between St. Vladimir of Rus and Anna Porphyrogenita of Byzantium, who fell in love after overcoming personal struggles and fears. The opera incorporates rock and roll, dance, and theatrics to entertain and educate people on a fascinating era of history (with lessons for today).
This presentation is a collaboration between the Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce and the Porphyra Band. For you history buffs, the name Porphyra “Πορφύρα” means the Purple or Porphyry Chamber; a pavilion of the Great Palace of Constantinople where no child born anywhere else could legitimately be called Porphyrogénnētos (born in the purple)-the birthright of all Emperors and Empresses of Constantinople. This was the most “metal” place in the kingdom! For more information, visit:http://porphyraband.com/rock-opera/.
The Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce is a nonprofit membership association that seeks to foster the economic growth, inclusive diversity, and shared prosperity of our community through advocacy, networking, and education. For more information, visit us at flushingchamber.nyc.
