As Governor of AHEPA Empire State District 6, I stand in strong opposition to any action that diminishes or erases the rich heritage and contributions of any ethnic community.
New York City is a mosaic built by generations of immigrants. Italian Americans, Greek Americans, Jewish Americans, Irish Americans, Hispanic Americans, Asian Americans, and so many others have each helped shape the character, culture, and success of our great city.
The history of Little Italy is not merely a neighborhood on a map—it is a symbol of sacrifice, perseverance, family values, faith, entrepreneurship, and the American Dream. Attempts to minimize or erase that history are deeply troubling.
As Greek Americans, we understand the importance of preserving our own heritage, language, traditions, and historic communities. That is why we proudly stand in solidarity with our Italian-American brothers and sisters. Respect for one community strengthens respect for all communities.
History should be preserved, not rewritten. Heritage should be celebrated, not erased.
I urge our elected leaders to recognize and honor the contributions of every community that has helped build New York City and to ensure that future generations learn and appreciate this shared history.
United, we are stronger.
