Concert of P. Karousos at the Municipal Theater of Piraeus

 

Monday, June 9, 2025. A concert with works by the internationally renowned composer P. Karousos was presented at the Municipal Theater of Piraeus, by the Club for UNESCO of Piraeus and Islands. In the concert, which featured bands from Mexico, Colombia, Chile, and Cuba, featuring soprano Maria Kokka that impressed and received warm applause. The famous soprano Maria Kokka performed in italian version the song "Maria Callas of our hearts - Maria Callas del Cuore" by the composer Panagiotis Karousos and was applauded enthusiastically by all of Piraeus. With her, tenor Giannis Darios sang the song "Caryatides" in poetry by Ioannis Polemis, dedicated to the return of the Parthenon sculptures, which she performed wonderfully. Christiana Manou accompanied them on the piano.

On June 9, 2025, the courtyard of the Municipal Theater of Piraeus was flooded with color, music and world traditions, where cultures united in a unique celebration of dance and friendship, organized by the UNESCO Group of Piraeus and the Islands and the international organization Interaction Art, with the support of the ASCLAYE association, within the framework of the events of the Municipality of Piraeus “Summer in the City”.

🌍 Traditional sounds and explosive rhythms from Colombia (Colombia Amiga) and Mexico (DBLAROZ Potosí) met with authentic dance performances from Greece, with the dynamic presence of the Igechoros and the Europe Pantachou Maniatos of “I Mani”. Soprano Maria Kokka performed the song “Maria Callas of our hearts” by the internationally renowned composer Panagiotis Karousos.

🫶🏻 In an atmosphere full of enthusiasm, the multicultural performances gave the mark of unity, tradition and interaction of peoples, within the framework of the dialogue of cultures and in the spirit of cooperation with UNESCO.

📣 Statement by the President of the North American Federation of Clubs and Associations for UNESCO, Mr. Maronitis Ioannis:

"It is not just a cultural event, it is an act of peaceful coexistence. Today, Piraeus became a meeting point of peoples and traditions. We thank from the bottom of our hearts all the bands and those who contributed to this particularly important celebration. Culture unites and we proved it once again".

Sunday, June 22, 2025. The concert with works of poetry set to music by the composer Panagiotis Karousos was successfully held at the Concerto Café Artistic, in the neoclassical building of the National Conservatory in the center of Athens, as part of the celebration of European Music Day (World Music Day 2025). Participants: Maria Kokka (soprano), Rhea Voudouri (soprano), Giannis Darrios (tenor), Giannos Kotzias (tenor), Christiana Manou (piano), Panagiotis Karousos, (composer). Poems set to music by G. Ritsos, G. Vilaras, G. Vizyenos, K. Palamas, I. Polemis, G. Drosinis, M. Malakasis, Byron, Lamartine, Goethe, Shakespeare, etc. were performed. Also well-known favorite melodies from Greek operettas and musicals.

The concert of poetry set to music by the composer Panagiotis Karousos was presented with great success at the Open Theater of Eleftherias Square, at the Summer Cultural Events 2025 of the Municipality of Lykovrysi - Pefki in the North Athens regional unit, Attica, Greece. The Musical Ensemble “Rhapsodes” participated: Rhea Voudouri (soprano), Maria Kioroglou (coloratura soprano), Yiannis Darrios (tenor), Giannos Kotzias (tenor), Christiana Manou (piano), Panagiotis Karousos, (composer). Coordination – Presentation: Rhea Voudouri.

The Mayor of Lykovrysi – Pefki, Mr. Marios Psychalis congratulated the artists and the composer and addressed a short greeting to the citizens. The concert was enjoyed by the audience who applauded the artists. Panagiotis Karousos is a versatile composer who, like Mikis Theodorakis, writes from art songs to symphonic works and operas. He is a Renaissance-style composer and his music focuses on the human being.
The program featured new artistic and lyrical songs by Panagiotis Karousos, poems set to music by great poets: The Enchanted Fountain (Kostas Krystallis), Spring Symphony (Yiannis Ritsos), The Child in the River (George Vizyenos), Parthenon (Kostis Palamas), Caryatids (Ioannis Polemis), The Poet (Dimitris Iatropoulos), Maria Callas of Our Hearts and Melina (Panagiotis Karousos), Sonnet 109 (Shakespeare), To Markos Botsaris (Dionysios Solomos), "Shield of Achilles" from the opera Iliad by Homer. The crowd asked for biz and three encores were performed!
