Thursday, September 15, 2022. The Department of School Activities D.E. Chios in collaboration with the Department of School Activities DDE of Corinth and "Apostolos Pavlos" Schools successfully presented the opera "Iliad" by Homer with a libretto and music by Panagiotis Karousos at the Open Theater of Daskalopetra Chios on Thursday September 15 at the pan-Hellenic Festival "NEW HOMERIDES" ».
The opera succeed and was applauded by the audience, educational student choirs and theater groups of the "Apostolos Pavlos" Schools impressed by performing the music of the music composer Panagiotis Karousos. The chief musician - teacher of the "Apostolos Pavlos" Educational Choir, tenor Grigoris Kontis, was particularly impressed by his performance of the aria "Psale Thea". Also, the "Apostolos Pavlos" High School Theater Group received a lot of applause in theatrical performances of Homer's Iliad under the supervision of philologists Andreas Koutsopoulos and Maria Matsoukas.
The emblematic choral pieces "Achillea's Shield" and "O Patrida" from the opera Iliad by Panagiotis Karousos were excellently performed by the "Apostolos Pavlos" Education Choir under the direction of music teacher Grigoris Kontis, and the musical accompaniment of the KEPAP Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Corinth under the direction of of chief musician Glykeria Moraitakis.
A crowd of people and the participating schools attended the presentation of the opera "Iliad" by Homer at the archaeological site of Daskalopetra or Homer's Stone which is the monument where Homer taught the epics Iliad and Odyssey in Chios. It should be noted that in the sanctuary on the rock of Homer, the relief with the seated goddess Cybele and the two lions flanking the throne and a representation of the relief with Homer and the Muses are faintly erased on the eroded stone.
