Huge success of the opera "Prometheus Bound" by P. Karousos at the Municipal Theater of Piraeus

Monday, September 23, 2024. The Club for UNESCO of Piraeus and Islands in collaboration with the Lyric Theater of Crete and the support of I.O. International Action Art presented the opera "Prometheus Bound" by the internationally renowned composer Panagiotis Karousos, based on the tragedy of Aeschylus, at the Municipal Theater of Piraeus with great success and a large crowd.

The lyrical artists participated: Maria Kokka, (soprano - star of the National Opera of Greece), Manos Christofakakis (bass - artistic director of the Lyric Theater of Crete), Rea Voudouri (soprano), Kathryn Skalidou (soprano), Giorgos Keramidaris (tenor), Giannis Darios (tenor), Giannos Kotzias (tenor), Fotini Papachristou (alto), Nikos Kotzias (cello), Antonis Giamvrias (flute), Mélisande Sinsoulier (piano), and Panagiotis Karousos (composer).


The performance was amazing. The audience was enthralled by the wonderful voices and music and applauded all the Artists, musicians, singers, and the Greek- Canadian composer Panagiotis Karousos.

The star of the opera, the amazing soprano Maria Kokka, moved and shook the audience with her dramatic performance in the demanding and vocally difficult role of Io. With an impressive stage presence, beauty and talent, Maria Kokka was applauded by the audience. Maria Kokka also edited the texts that made up the opera.

The excellent bass Mr. Manos Christofakakis perfectly interpreted the role of the Titan Prometheus with a wide range of voice and musicality. The role of Oceanid was performed by excellent lyric soprano Rea Voudouri , Via was the soprano Kathryn Skalidou, Hermes the tenor Giorgos Keramidaris, and Ocean the tenor Giannos Kotzias.

Three great musicians accompanied the excellent lyrical singers, the cellist of the State Orchestra of Athens K.O.A. Nikos Kotzias, the well-known flautist, former Artistic Director of the Philological Association Parnassos Mr. Antonis Yiamvrias, and the great French pianist Mélisande Sinsoulier. The three musicians performed the Overture and the first aria of Prometheus "Holy Ether" arranged for Piano Trio (Flute, Cello, Piano), and literally enchanted the audience with their pulse and musicality.


The audience was also particularly impressed by the two melodious choral parts of the opera "Prometheus, we were friends" and "Jupiter does not claim his power against me" beautifully performed by the lyrical singers Rhea Voudouris (soprano), Kathryn Skalidou (soprano), Giorgos Keramidaris (tenor), Giannis Darreios (tenor), Giannos Kotzias (tenor), and Fotini Papachristou (alto).

The journalist and historical writer Mr. George Sarris spoke about the music composer Mr. Panagiotis Karousos international career and his operatic works (Prometheus Bound, Alexander the Great, and The Iliad by Homer).


The artists were congratulated by the Chief Musician and conductor of the National Opera of Greece, Mr. Ilias Voudouris, the mezzo-soprano Ms. Maria Marketou, the Ambassador of Greece to the World Organization for Cultural Diplomacy, Mr. Andreas Renzoulas, the private researcher Mr. Giorgos Tsoukalis, Mr. Ioannis Galanis, member of the Board of Directors of WPF, founder and General Director of EN.P.AN. (Culture and Development Associations) and President of EN.ELPA, the Baritone Soloist of the National Opera Petros Salatas, Mrs. Anna Bouldoumi, President for many years of the Panhellenic Association of Owners of Foreign Language Centers and founder of the Bouldumi Educational Group, the actor Mr. Vassilis Traiforos, Soprano - Singing teacher Dina Goudioti, the members of the Visual Arts Department of the Club for UNESCO of Piraeus and Islands, and a crowd of people that flooded the Piraeus Municipal Theater hall.

The success was so great that a chorus of the opera was repeated at the demand of the audience, who kept applauding the performers. Lots of photos and congratulations ensued as no one left the audience wanting to congratulate the performers up close and take pictures. It was one of the most beautiful performances with high-quality music that we saw this year in the beautiful hall of the foyer of the Municipal Theater of Piraeus.
