Triumph of the opera Iliad by Panagiotis Karousos at the Municipal Theater of Piraeus directed by Vanessa Kalkanis and conducted by Glykeria Moraitakis
Wednesday 25 May. Triumph of the opera Iliad by Panagiotis Karousos at the Municipal Theater of Piraeus, organized by the Club for UNESCO of Piraeus & Islands, the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Corinth, the Municipality of Piraeus, and the Directorate of Secondary Education of the Ministry of Education.
More than 1000 students and teachers of the High Schools of Piraeus of Secondary Education of the Ministry of Education applauded the amazing lyric singers with the Philharmonic of the Municipality of Corinth under the direction of the chief musician Glykeria Moraitaki.
The Club for UNESCO Piraeus & Islands under the auspices of the Municipality of Piraeus, with the support of the Youth Sports and Culture Organization (OPAN) of the Municipality of Piraeus and the international organization INTERNATIONAL ACTION ART, presented the Opera "ILIAS" of Homer by Panagiotis Karousos and directed by Vanessa Kalkanis at the Municipal Theater of Piraeus.
This unprecedented triumphant performance was presented by Ioannis Maronitis, President of the Club for UNESCO Piraeus & Islands and President of INTERNATIONAL ACTION ART in a pandemonium of enthusiasm to over 1000 students and teachers of secondary education of the Ministry of Education.
The Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Corinth participated under the direction of the chief musician Glykeria Moraitakis, and excellent soloist opera singers led by the incredible soprano Vanessa Kalkanis who played the role of Helen. The role of Andromache was played by the lyric soprano Rea Voudouri, the role of Achilles by the tenor Costas Thanellas, the role of Paris by the baritone George Housakos, the role of Chryseis by the soprano Nina Giatra, the role of Priam the baritone Panagiotis Diplaros, the role of Hector the tenor Dionysis Milidakis, the roles of Ekavi and Thetis the soprano/mezzo-soprano Vivian Ioannou, the role of Briseis a the soprano Maria Kioroglou, the role of Odysseus the baritone Alexandros Piskioulis, and the role of Patroclus the tenor Argyris Kontonikolaou. The excellent soloists of the opera were accompanied on the piano by Nikolaos Dedes. Also soprano Vanessa Kalkanis did an amazing work as a stage director of the opera, to combine all those school groups with the opera singers.
Also participated the School Choir "Apostolos Pavlos" under the direction of Grigoris Kontis, the Theatrical Group of "Apostolos Pavlos" Schools under the direction of Andreas Koutsopoulos and Matsouka Maria-Christina, and the "School Theater Group" of the 1st High School of Piraeus in dramatization of Rhapsody P of the Iliad in adaptation - cureted by the philologist Skotidakis Georgia.

The presentation of Homer's opera "Iliad" in music and libretto by Panagiotis Karousos was presented in the context of the "Sea Days 2022" festival events of the Municipality of Piraeus.
The training certificates of the Ministry of Education were awarded by the former School Counselor Dr. Chrysoula Tsigri, that she congratulated the president of UNESCO Piraeus & Islands Mr. Ioannis Maronitis, and the composer Mr. Panagiotis Karousos for their contribution to education and culture of Greece.
Honorary plaques were awarded by Ioannis Maronitis, President of the Club for UNESCO Piraeus & Islands and President of INTERNATIONAL ACTION ART.
The Opera / Oratorio "ILIAD" of Homer in music and libretto by Panagiotis Karousos has been approved to be presented in the context of the Approval of the Educational Program-Festival entitled: "NEOI OMIRIDES 2022" for the school year 2021-2022 for schools in Greece and abroad. The first presentation of the opera was made on the World Poetry Day 2022 at the Alexandreio Conference Center of the Municipality of Loutraki - Perachora - Agioi Theodoroi by the Department of School Activities of the Secondary Education Department of the Prefecture of Corinth and in the Amphitheater of the 4th High School of Corinth.
The Director of the Secondary Education Department of Corinth Mr. Asvestopoulos Dimitrios was represented by the head of the School Activities of Corinth Mrs. Tsapalou Annita that she said: "The presentation of the opera" Iliad "by Homer in music and libretto by Panagiotis Karousos aims to contribute dynamically to the cultural promotion of an important Greek melodrama on the heroic epic poem of Homer. As a musician, I judge the work of Mr. Karousos as an important station of unattainable music of artistic creation. Finally, nowadays, a great work is being born, and we are especially honored by the fact that it is born through education".

Come witness Emperor Basil II’s sister, Anna Porphyrogenita, and her heroic Adventures!
Due to popular demand, "Porphyra, a Grecian Rock Opera" is spotlighting Byzantine Princess Anna Porphyrogenita, in this new story telling cycle, for the Astoria Greek community. The new show is expanding Anna's background story in “Anna and Vladimir: The love that ROCKED the world,” which debuted at Carnegie Hall and Off Broadway.
Set in the year 988 AD, the Heroic Age of Basil II Emperor of Byzantium, the story chronicles Princess Anna Porphyrogenita and her world-rocking marriage to Grand Prince Vladimir of the Kievan Rus. The show also explores Penelope Delta's incredible world, as envisioned by the great author, of Emperor Basil II's Byzantine Greek Macedonian Renaissance, his struggles, victories and aspirations for his people and family.
An incredible story of Love, War and Peace brought to life through Hard Rock and Greek Folk music, dancing, actors, and a full rock orchestra.
There is also a special tribute to Epaminondas ("Epi") Stathopoulos Electric Guitar pioneer of Epiphone guitars fame!
With participation from St. Demetrios Student Clubs and featuring G.A.F.S. and the Greek American Folklore Society.

As a note, "The Story of Princess Anna Porphyrogenita" is new but comprises some of the older production music, and new music and builds on the story lines already developed. Music featured is from Porphyra's three albums, "Faith, Struggle, Victory", "The Starmaker's Prophecy", and our upcoming album "1821 and other stories "(working title), and Phoenix Reign's "Destination Unknown." It also includes new exclusive traditional Greek Folk Dance numbers that will be preformed by the group for the Greek American Folklore Society.

Porphyra Foundation Inc. is looking for a powerful Hard Rock / Theater singer.

Porphyra Foundation Inc. is looking for a powerful Hard Rock / Theater singer. Our Production is running this June 24th, 25th, and 26th. Each day is $300 for a total of $900 compensation.
The roles are for Emperor Basil II and Vladimir the Great.
Basil has around 8 songs and Vladimir has around 12. Most are duets though. And some backup singing is required for a few other songs. Looking for Tenors.
There are 8 rehearsals in total. Singers need to attend 4-5. Compensation $35 for each rehearsal for gas and tolls. This is a grassroots project and a fundraiser. But we do have some other paying shows as well after so it is a great opportunity.
