Akhenaten, also known as Amenhotep IV, was an ancient Egyptian pharaoh who reigned during the 18th dynasty, around the 14th century BC.During his rule, Akhenaten moved the Egyptian capital to a new city called Akhetaten, modern-day Amarna, and constructed impressive temples dedicated to the sun god Aten. He is also known for his artistic contributions, with the art of his period characterized by a more naturalistic and relaxed style.
Akhenaten's reign is often seen as a period of profound religious and cultural change. However, his reforms faced resistance and, after his death, Egypt reverted to traditional religious practices and tried to erase his memory. Nonetheless, Akhenaten remains a fascinating figure in ancient Egyptian history for his attempts to transform the religious landscape of his time.
